Kansas City's most complete reception site guide.
Of course one of the most important aspects of a wedding is the party, and one more detail of wedding planning is choosing a reception site. There are hundreds of venues from which to choose and quite a few things to consider even before viewing a location.
First, consider the type of wedding you’re having. If it’s a formal evening affair, you must plan on a sit-down dinner for your guests. If you’re planning an afternoon wedding, a cocktail buffet is appropriate.
Next, consider the size of the facility you’ll need. Does it hold the number of guests you’re inviting comfortably? Remember that the seating configuration will affect how the space is utilized. For example, a formal dinner will require more space than a cocktail party buffet. If in doubt, choose the larger facility. You want your guests to be comfortable.
Some reception facilities allow outside caterers, and some do not, depending upon what services are provided on location. (See our catering key to this guide, below.)
And speaking of signing—discuss the terms of the contract thoroughly before making your final decision. The contract should specifically outline the cancellation policy, deposit amount and when the balance is due.
